SAN ANGELO – Miss Rachel Malone, an advocate for gun rights since 2012 is passionate, tireless and fiery when it comes to being proactive on the issue of constitutional carry. Malone who is the Texas Director for Gun Owners of America, was invited to be the San Angelo Pachyderm Club’s November guest speaker.

In Malone’s presentation she spoke about the GOA’s legislative priorities, particularly when it came to constitutional and carry, why she believes it is so important to preserve our freedom.
One thing Rachel learned in the early going was that she couldn’t do this battle on her own. In order to be effective, she was going to need grass roots support. That’s why she has traveled a lot to speak to different organizations and tell them how they can help her.

Rachel became even more staunch on gun rights because of the injustice as bills were dying in a committee. “The process was that a single person could unilaterally kill a bill even if there was broad support for a bill.” “Once a bill did get to the House floor or the Senate, and say it had gotten all the votes, one person would have the ability to keep it from reaching the floor” said Rachel.

Rachel has double-downed (resolute, become more tenacious) in going about to bring attention to this unjust process. “If people believe in gun rights, you need to get out there and do the work and defend your gun rights.” It is not enough to hope that someone else does something. “The people who believe that the second amendment is the right to protect all the others, those people need to get up and do something about it.”

Malone outlined three specific things that everyone can do to become proactive.
1. Attend committee hearings, Hearings are held mostly weekends between February and May. The 86th Texas Legislature convenes on January 8, 2019.
2. Call or visit legislators. Also, be ready to make calls to chairman, etc. your representative can be found at www.fyi.legis.state.tx.us/
3. Connect with organization for updates. Join an email list, follow on social media, share emails and post in your circles.
