SAN ANGELO – Angelo State University, a 90-year-old educational institution had an earth orbital rendezvous with Apollo officials scheduled Wednesday, November 7 on the campus of ASU at the Bookstore to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the historic Apollo 11 moon landing.

Out of the five scheduled guest speakers, two of them: Mr. Francis French and Dr. James Hansen were on hand to meet with the ASU community and others to sign their books.
French, whose book is titled, “In the Shadow of the Moon” was asked if his book was more technical or historical? “A little bit of both, but mostly historical.” It was from 1968-1972 that astronauts went to the moon.”
“So, in that sense it was historical.” “But it would not be telling it historically correctly if it wasn’t about someway, tech innovation,” said French, former director of the San Diego Air and Space Museum and currently a space historian.

Left-to-right: Megan Landers and sister, Lindsey. Both sisters are ASU graduates who received their Masters this past May 2108. The Landers sisters plan to attend the "First Man" movie.

French gave kudos(acclaim) as on Thursday, November 8, the movie, “First Man” based on Dr. James Hansen’s book, will be shown at the Icon Cinema, 2020 N. Bryant Blvd.
“It’s really interesting that here we are half a century from these events that happened, so it’s wonderful that this university is celebrating that,” concluded French.

• Joel Banow, CBS News director of the Apollo moon landing broadcasts
