SAN ANGELO – At the South Texas District 21’s Good News Gathering in San Antonio, Texas, keynote speaker, Dr. Filimao Chambo by the power invested in him as the General Superintendent in the Nazarene Church, ordained five elders.

“I see the significance of this moment as another opportunity where you enter into a covenant with the Church. We believe that God calls you and, we have seen the gifts that God has given you. That you are worthy to be ordained as an elder in the Church of the Nazarene. We join with the District to celebrate your ordination. The Church confirms that calling through ordination” said Dr. Chambo.

Dr. Chambo charged the elders to preach and teach the word of God. "To lead people to God in worship and prayer, to lead people to faith in Jesus Christ, . . . and into [holy] sanctification." "To seek justice, peace, and freedom for all." Chambo also said to the elders to take their place in service to the Church.

Among the attendees at the Good News Gathering was Martha Cahill and her family. Cahill at that time was also supposed to receive her minister’s license, albeit had to wait until Sunday, April 25, 2021. Martha was presented her license by Rev. K. Ray McDowell, Assistant District Superintendent before the Sunday services at First Church of the Nazarene, 3354 West Beauregard Ave.

Afterward, Flaco Guapo Media asked her, what did it mean for you to receive your license as a minister of the Gospel? “It means that I am now a pastor. I can now move forward in my calling to minister as a pastor in the way God wants me to.”

“This is to certify that Martha Cahill is made a licensed Minister of the Gospel in the Church of the Nazarene. Preparation as a Deacon for one year, provided her spirit and practice are such as become the gospel of Christ, and that her ministry corresponds with the established doctrines of the Holy Scriptures as held by said church. By order of South Texas District Assembly of the Church of the Nazarene. Done at Cypress, Texas, the 10th day of April 2021. Signed by the General Superintendent, Dr. Filimao Chambo, District Superintendent, Dr. Jeffery Johnson, and District Secretary.

Pastor Cahill will be ordained in three years. She has to hold her district minister’s license for that three-year period. Currently Cahill serves as youth pastor, and Family Life Director.

“Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you” (John 15:16, King James Version.)
The word ordain in the Greek (theo) means “to place, appoint, purpose, set (forth), settle, [set you apart]”
That you should bear fruit [of the Spirt: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance.]

The pastor of SAFCN is Brad Selby who was officially installed as the church’s pastor by McDowell. "We affirm today that Rev. Brad Selby has received and is fulfilling that calling" read Rev. McDowell.
McDowell charged both Pastor Brad and SAFCN members that a mutual convenant had taken place between them. The ecclesiastical word, covenant means, " a solemn agreement between the members of a church to act together in harmony with the precepts of the gospel." A spiritual and committed relationship took place that day between a pastor and congregation.

The fivefold ministry gifts to the Church of Jesus consist of: apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers (Ephesians 4:11.) Pastor Brad is a "man of God" sent as a gift to SAFCN. He is "come to the Kingdom for such as time as this" (Esther 4:11.)

Long before the Nazarene Church recognized and acknowledged God’s call and gifts upon Cahill, Martha was a servant to her family and SAFCN members whom Jesus chose and ordained (set apart, placed, appointed and purposed) her into the work of the ministry as a pastor. Being ordained as a pastor, her spirtual credentials are based upon the fruit of the Spirit in her yielded, holy vessel “sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work” (II Timothy 2:21. KJV.)
