SAN ANGELO — One-by-one, each junior clown and princess contestant was asked by San Angelo Ambassador, Captain, and emcee, Susannah Mann if they wanted to sing her and Mann’s sidekick partner, Co-captain, Nayeli Carbajal, a song.
And one-by-one each of them passed. All except for five-year-old, Cheyenne Coats. Cheyenne did hesitate at the outset but then her mom asked her to “do it for mommy.”
Cheyenne Coats was one of 20 kids to compete in this year’s 16th annual Rodeo Junior Clown and Princess. The RJCR event was held on Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Cavender’s Western Wear.
When little Cheyenne stepped up to the mike, she not only owned it, she captured the hearts of all the parents who clapped for her cute performance. Coats sang, ‘The Sun is Rising by Britt Nicole. “I don’t know if I sang it all right” sheepishly she said. “But I think I did.”
Besides Coats, her other fellow princess competitors were Kinsley Quirk, Camila Pulido, Aubrey Ewell, Maci Ballard, Cheyenne Garvin, Mary Carlisle Mejia, Analiese Mejia, Sadie Puckitt, Aubrey Valenzuela, Sage Kirkwood, Mackenzie Surber, Marlee Surber, and Paisley Schovajsa.
The clown contestants were: Cotton Langley, Gavin Ballard, Seth Garcia, Jayden Jimenez, Brazos Kirkwood, and Cash Ingram.
The three Ambassadors: Savanna Sexton, Kally Murray, and Kennedy King judged the 14 princesses and six clown contestants on wardrobe appearance and personality.
The Committee Chair in charge was Sally Green, and Director, Misty Weishuhn.
The 16th annual, Junior Rodeo Clown & Princess event took place at Cavender's Western Wear, 2520 Southwest Blvd.
All 20 kids will take part in 11 Mutton Bustin' performances at this year’s 89th annual, San Angelo Rodeo scheduled for April 9-24, 2021 at the Foster Communications Coliseum, 50 E. 43rd St.
