SAN ANGELO – Angelo State University intramural flag football team IM Legends claimed the 2018 Co-Rec Division Regional Championship at the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) Region IV Tournament earlier this month in Austin. IM Legends defeated a team from the University of North Texas, 28-16, in the championship game to win the title.
By winning the regional tournament, IM Legends has qualified to defend its 2017 national title at the 2018 NIRSA National Flag Football Championships in January in Pensacola, Fla.

Individually for IM Legends, Luke Dacy of Wall, Lindsey Englehart of Aztec, N.M., and Shannon Thompson of Seguin were named to the Co-Rec All-Tournament Team. The IM Legends roster also includes:

• Miguel Castillo of Mason
• Julian Helms of Grandfalls
• Malik Jones of Cedar Park
• Jacie Klose of Haskell
• Matthew Lowry of San Angelo
• Jake Meyers of Big Lake
• Lexey Parker of Bertram
• Justin Rhodes of Killeen
• Stefani Richardson of McKinney
• Charles Tapia of Odessa

Additionally for ASU, women’s team Vixen qualified for the national tournament by advancing to the regional semifinals before losing to the eventual regional champion team from the University of Autonoma de Nuevo Leon (Mexico).
Klose was named to the Women’s All-Tournament Team for Vixen.

Also, Josh Hale of Abilene represented the ASU Officials Association and was named an All-Tournament Official and the Top Official at regionals. He will advance to officiate at the national tournament.

Two ASU men’s teams, KDR and Wolfpac, also competed at the regional tournament and advanced to the quarterfinals, falling just short of automatic qualification for the national tournament, though they each may still receive an at-large bid.
