SAN ANGELO – San Angelo Central High School Bobcats’ quarterback, Malachi Brown’s, star shines brightest when the stakes are the highest. Brown’s fantasy scoring, yards passing and running propelled his San Angelo Central High ‘Cardiac' Cats (improved to 6-2 on the season, 3-1 in district) to a come-from-behind Friday night district 3-6A, 32-28 thriller win against Fort Worth Richland Rebels (3-4 on the season, 1-2, district).

With the game played at San Angelo Stadium under cloudy skies and a cool 59 degrees, super sophomore, Malachi, got scorching red-hot to rally his Bobcats' team that was down early in the first quarter, 14-7. On the night, Brown torched the Rebels defense for over 330 plus yards which included two touchdown passes and two touchdown runs on unofficially, 40 carries.

Forth Worth Richland receiver, Shamar Johnson, catches a slant pass from his quarterback and then outruns Bobcat secondary on his way to scoring a touchdown.

The game started fast as Fort Worth Richland scored first and easily. The Rebels’ quarterback, Gavin Colopy, threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to receiver, Shamar Johnson to take a 7-0 lead after the PAT. The scoring drive took only a minute and 18 seconds off the clock.

Cats' receiver, Christian Gabaldon, eyes a pass thrown by Malachi Brown, that he prepares to catch once he gets by Rebels' senior, defensive back, Brice Kirkland.

Brown, in his sixth start as Central’s quarterback, led his team to match the score when he threw a touchdown pass to his receiver, Christian Gabaldon from close range. PAT made it 7-7 in the first quarter. At the end of the first quarter, the Rebels led 14-7. Although Central scored on back-to-back drives to lead, 20-14, Fort Worth Richland took the lead at the half, 21-20.

The Rebels added to their lead late in the third quarter to make it 28-20; but Central closed out the game as Brown scored twice; first on a 2-yard, third quarter touchdown run. Then again in the fourth quarter on a nine-yarder for a thrilling 32-28 crucial victory. Brown has now won four of five games he has started and has a four-game winning streak as the triggerman for the pinball scoring Cats.

The Bobcats are road warriors for next Friday’s game, October 26 against the Hurst Bell Blue Raiders (1-6, 0-3). Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. from Pennington Field.
