SAN ANGELO – At Saturday’s Angelo State University 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. graduation ceremonies, scheduled December 15th, Dr. Jack W. Nowlin, shared some advice and life’s experiences as an ASU alumnus who graduated in 1991.

A combined 650 grads from both ceremonies walked across the stage to receive their degree from ASU President, Dr. Brian May; the ceremonies were held in the Junell Center/ Stephens Arena.

Although Dr. Nowlin didn’t remember who the commencement speaker was then, he did remember the following quote “No one cares how much you, until they know how much you care.” 27 years later, that quote was important to him as an educator because he needs to know things that he is going to teach really, really well. But even more important is that his students know that he cares about them. “I need to make that personal connection that I care about what they understand.” said Nowlin. And, in their personal careers, and lives.” “We challenge our students and we support them. “Every decision we make is designed to help them succeed.”

In the 10 a.m. graduation ceremonies, Dr. Nowlin addressed graduates from the College of Education, Archer College of Health and Human Services, and College of Graduate Studies and Research.

Holiday Bailey graduated from ASU on Saturday, December 15th in the 2 p.m. fall commencement ceremony.

Austin Vandiver is not only on top of the world, academically as a graduate of ASU, but literally on top of ASU's ram statue. Vandiver, who was Flaco Guapo's Media intern, was among 650 graduates who received degrees from both 10 .am. and 2 p.m. fall, commencement ceremonies.

Nowlin then spoke to the graduates of the College of Arts and Humanities, Norris-Vincent College of Business, College of Science and Engineering, and College of Graduate Studies and Research during a 2 p.m. ceremony.
