SAN ANGELO – What does Theordore “Tip” Hargrove have in common with Joe Munoz, John Caldwell, Berta Linton, Randy Stout Sr., Kirk Hawkins, Patsy Stone, and Dana Ehrlich? “Tip" became the eighth and newest recipient to receive the prestigious, Criselda Paz Award that is annually presented by Legal Aid of Northwest Texas at its Pro Bono Awards Ceremony, held at the Elks Lodge, 2121 S. Chadbourne St.
The Criselda Paz Award, named after Criselda “Cris” Paz, the Managing Attorney in the San Angelo Legal Aid Office, was presented to Hargrove by the Honorable Judge, Jay Weatherby, who stated that the award was based upon such attributes as “diligence, professionalism and community contribution” as exemplified by the late. Paz, he said.
Judge Weatherby considers Hargrove, a former Judge Advocate General (JAG) officer, a “lawyer’s lawyer, meaning he takes care of his business, but he also takes very good care of his clients.”
Weatherby further stated that Hargrove was well-liked and respected by all the judges, by all the attorneys as he is prompt, always prepared and fair. “To me he is authentic which is the highest compliment you can pay somebody, because he is what you see.” “I can think of no one who exemplifies the attributes of the Criselda Paz Award better than “Tip” Hargrove and is it an honor to be here to present it,” concluded Weatherby.
“It is an honor to try to help in any way those who have defended our constitution and preserved our freedom, enough said, thank you very much,” Hargrove said in his brief remarks on accepting the award.
