SAN ANGELO – Four topics, ranging from advanced safety/planning to digital abuse, neurobiology & neurofeedback to brain trauma were given by two professionals: Bronwyn Blake, legal director for Texas Advocacy Project, and Joshua Brown, Fort Bend Women’s Center to 45 social workers, counselors, law enforcement, educators, and victim advocates at this Tuesday morning’s Community Warrior’s Against Violence training session which was held at Trinity Lutheran Church’s fellowship hall. Some of the professionals on hand were: Children’s Advocacy Center, Child Protective Services, Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office, The Family Shelter, Tom Green County Attorney’s office, etc

One of those topics covered by Blake was Intimate Partner Violence and Digital Abuse. “Digital abuse, which is kind of a newer thing for all of us, said Sarah Falkner, vice president of the Tom Green County Coalition Against Violence.
With October being designated as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, TGCCAV holds four training sessions throughout the year as it helps all of us as a community to deal with this issue, stated Falkner.

“There’s a variety of different social media apps to reach out and communicate because we want to be heard” said Blake. Regarding posting on social media, Bronwyn told a victim of sexual assault, not to do it because it won’t help her case. “It was so important for her to share story with her friends.” However, when she did it with her close friends in a private Instagram story, one of her so-called friends posted it publicly. Blake informed the 45 professional advocates to tell the victim to think it through before posting on Facebook, Instagram, etc.
