SAN ANGELO – Being a successful, leader, particularly for nine women who have enjoyed a measure of tremendous influence can be attributed to such intrinsic traits as the ability to listen, humility, to yield to someone else respectfully, etc.,
At Friday’s Leadercast Women 2018, nine women in their respective fields ranging from human rights to journalism, consulting, to being a NASCAR driver, etc. were invited to speak to 36 San Angelo attendees on some of these traits, plus others. The Small Business Development, located at 69 N. Chadbourne was one of the host sites for this year’s event which was held on Friday, October 12.
At the 1 p.m. afternoon session, broadcast live from Atlanta, GA. two famous Bush members: twin sisters, Jenna Bush-Hager and Barbara, daughters of former President, George W. and first lady, Laura Bush, spoke specifically on traits they looked for in successful people and women that they looked up to.

Dezaray Johnson, Certified Business Advisor for the Small Business Development Center, 69 N. Chadbourne, and the coordinator for this event was asked which one of the women impacted her the most.
“Julia Landaur, a NASCAR Driver, just because she has a strong message about empowering yourself as women to have your voice, heard” said Johnson.

Charlotte Anderson, Marketing/ Membership representative for Sam’s Club identified with one of the speakers-- Ritu Bhasin, Speaker, Author, and President, Bhasin Consulting Inc. Bhasin’s inspirational message was on being a good listener. “When you listen to other people, you learn more” “That gives us an opportunity to broaden our circle of information and to get a different perspective,” said Anderson.

“Leadership is based on listening” said Jenna. “Everything moves so fast now that if we took a second, asked why and tried to listen before making a decision.” Jenna is one of the hosts on NBC’s Today Show. Jenna's twin sister, Barbara, was asked by the moderator what other qualities she looked for in leaders. Four of them that she mentioned were:
• Empathy
• Humility
• Desire
• Willingness

Barbara also mentioned something significant regarding to mentor-ship. Her mentor, a male, one time gave her an opportunity and the platform to speak on his behalf, rather than it being all about him and his agenda. Barbara stated that was one of those intrinsic qualities she looked for in people and women, called—humility. It also qualifies as to yield (defer) to someone else, respectfully.
