SAN ANGLO – The 2019 Angelo State University graduates were pretty amazing for several reasons. First, in preparation for its largest-ever graduating class of nearly 1,100 students. ASU expanded its spring commencement to include ceremonies :10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. ASU’s graduation took place on Mother’s Day weekend, Saturday May 11th. The ceremonies were held in the Junell Center/Stephens Arena.

The second reason that made this year’s class unique, was mentioned in ASU President, Dr. Brian May’s opening remarks. “They represent six different countries, including the United States. They come from 35 different states which includes Texas. Within Texas, students represent 132 various counties. Another interesting fact is 72 different majors are represented.

Dr. Mays congratulates Miss Evelyn J. Burch. Miss Burch was summa cum laude with a 4.0 which is the highest university honors. Burch was also the 2019 Presidential Award recipient which she received on April 25th.

And the ages of ASU graduates range from 19-years-old to 60. 59 percent are women; 70 percent received a Carr Scholarship. 32 ½ are graduate students. And for the 10th year in a row, ASU is listed in the Princeton Review as one of the best universities in the United States. There are only three Texas public institutions that can say that—UT Austin, A&M in College Station and ASU.”

Dr. May concluded, saying that for him, life is not complicated. “When you make a decision make it right. “When you make a mistake, admit it and apologize because that will lead to correcting the problem. We can be to the best to our ability in our job, in a marriage, raising a family. And finally, let everyone around you, regardless of your situation, know that you care about them. And mean it. Remember when you come back to Angelo State, you are coming home.” “Because you will always be a member of our Ram family.”

Justice Medina majored in Mass Communications.

"After 123 credit hours, 45 classes, and four years, I am happy to say I am graduating Summa Cum Laude with a perfect 4.0 GPA." ASU 2019 graduate, Mrs. Zane Giovanna "Gigi" Scott.
