SAN ANGELO –John Singleton, April 29, 2019; Luke Perry, February 27, 2019; Montel Williams, May 30, 2018; and Jerry Trevino, April 28, 2013. What do these four individuals with month, day and year after their names have in common with each other? All of them suffered a stroke on that day. Singelton, ‘Boyz N the Hood’ director, and Perry, former teen idol, from the TV series, Beverly Hills 90210 both died shortly after. As for Williams, former daytime talk show host, he and Trevino both survived. This story focuses on one ordinary individual with an extraordinary “saving grace power through Jesus Christ”, San Angeloan, Trevino who was given an opportunity to share his “Overcome by the blood of the Lamb” testimony by his pastor, Robert Cuellar; and before Primera Church of San Angelo attendees where he worships.

“My testimony is not just about the miracle God is performing on me, but on the power of prayer and faith,” said Trevino. Six years ago, Jerry suffered a hemorrhagic stroke. “A hemorrhagic stroke is when blood from an artery begins bleeding into the brain. This happens when a weakened blood vessel bursts and bleeds into the surrounding brain. Pressure from the leaked blood damages brain cells, and, as a result, the damaged area is unable to function properly”  per https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/317111.php

Statistically those who suffer this type of stroke, either die within a few days or on the way to the hospital. “I want to thank God for giving me a second chance in life” Trevino said. On that particular day of his stroke, Jerry who was at home with his family eating breakfast, suffered a stroke. His mom, Olivia, a woman of prayer, immediately placed her hands on his head and began to pray. During the next 60 days while Jerry was in the hospital, Mrs. Trevino, who herself was going to dialysis, would come every-day to Jerry’s hospital room to pray for him. Jerry began to “to stabilize and be active.”

Among the Primera Church members in attendance when Trevino spoke were friends, Bobby Ramirez and Benito Torres. Both of them came to visit him during those two months he was hospitalized.

Trevino said he didn’t question the Lord as to why he suffered a stroke. Instead he sees it as an opportunity to share his testimony of inspiration and for others to come to the saving knowledge of Jesus as their Savior.

One thing crystal clear in Jerry’s life that comes across is that he does not see himself as disabled or feels sorry for himself one bit. He carries himself with dignity and respect that he also extends to others. What was meant for evil, this stroke that could have taken his life, God has turned it around for good in Jerry’s life. Trevino continues to persevere by having friends close to him, a church home, a pastor. And, staying the course of “fighting the good fight of faith!”

Toward the end of his testimony Jerry shared a scripture. “Jesus answered and said unto him, ‘What I do thou knowest not now’.” “But thou shalt know thereafter,” John 13:7. Trevino’s step to recovery, literally began that day when he didn’t die but became more than a survivor, but a conquer.

“I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord,” {Psalm 118:7, KJV); “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us” (Romans 8:37, KJV).
