SAN ANGELO– The San Angelo ISD Communications Department was recently honored with a Gold Star Award at the 2019 Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) Conference for excellence in school communications.

TSPRA’s annual Star Awards recognize the outstanding education communications and projects of school PR professionals in the areas of print, electronic, and visual communications.

SAISD's Gold Star was awarded to Communications Specialist, Jack Wilcox, for the "Sip 'em Cats" video he created last spring.

"We are excited to share the inspiring work of our students and teachers," said Interim Communications Director, Jennifer Crutchfield. "The hard work put into launching Sip ‘em Cats really comes through in this story. Jack (Wilcox) is very talented and has a great eye for making a story come to life."

This year, more than 1,400 entries were submitted. Judges evaluated all statewide submissions and determined the winners based on criteria set by TSPRA and then awarded Gold, Silver or Bronze Star Awards, as well as Best of Categories, Certificates of Merit, Crystal Commendations and the Platinum Award.

School districts are judged among three separate divisions: less than 10,000 students, 10,000 to 30,000 students, and more than 30,000 students. San Angelo ISD competes in the 10,000-30,000 Students division along with other districts such as Allen ISD, Brazosport ISD, Grand Prairie ISD, Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD, Coppell ISD, Waco ISD and more.

TSPRA is a nonprofit, professional organization dedicated to promoting public schools through effective communications. With more than 900 members, TSPRA is comprised primarily of public information and communications professionals who serve the public school districts and education organizations of Texas.
